Overview
The village of Omodos played a significant role in the 1955-1959 liberation struggle of Cyprus. Many courageous locals actively supported the EOKA organization, providing aid in various forms. Some were arrested and tortured by the British, while others were locked up in detention rooms. Omodos served as a place of refuge for many freedom fighters, including Grigoris Afxentiou. Inspired by noble ideals, the villagers created a hideout in the house of Aristos and Maroulla Theodorou on the instructions of Afxentiou. This guerrilla hiding spot stands as a testament to the bravery and determination of the people of Omodos in the fight for their nation's liberation.
